'Mobile drug lab to save lives at Tomorrowland'
An important novelty for dance festival Tomorrowland in Boom, Belgium.
For two weekends this summer at Tomorrowland, a mobile laboratory of the National Institute of Criminalistics and Criminology will test all seized drugs. That way, faster warnings can be given about dangerous tablets, crystals or powders. All of this to save lives.
Four to six investigators from the National Institute of Criminalistics and Criminology (NICC) will test all drugs seized by the prosecutor's office. If the drugs are found to contain dangerous substances, festivalgoers will be notified immediately. This can be done through the calibrated social media channels or with messages on screens located on the grounds.
Just last summer, two festival-goers at Tomorrowland Belgium died due to drug use.
