He thought his mic was muted and promptly confessed to 3 murders
Twenty long years Robert Durst, wealthy American heir and dubious businessman, breathed freedom... But for 20 years he was also suspected of killing three people.
His wife, Kathleen McCormack, mysteriously disappeared in 1982 in New York. Susan Berman, her best friend, was found dead of a gunshot to the head in Beverly Hills in the early 2000s. The day after her murder, he would be questioned by police about Kathleen's disappearance. In the same year, his neighbour, Morris Black, was killed, dismembered and thrown into the sea. The bags containing the body parts were spotted by fishermen in Galveston Bay, Texas. Robert Dust was acquitted of the crime, while his lawyers pleaded self-defence.
While he was still slipping through the cracks and the police failed to charge him, everything unravelled in just a few minutes in March 2015. These are some sentences uttered by the accused himself during the filming of a documentary dedicated to his life. "The curse: the life and death of Robert Durst" that will bring him down. Thinking his microphone was muted, Robert Durst went to relieve himself in the toilet and, in this intimate moment, whispered to himself, "What have I done? I killed them all, of course." On the eve of the airing of the final episode of the biographical documentary, the man was arrested by police and sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Susan Berman. Later, he was also convicted in New York for the murder of his wife, Kathleen McCormack.
In January 2022, the 78-year-old multimillionaire, the black sheep of a prestigious New York real estate family, died a natural death after numerous health problems in custody.
