Dutch war hero got raped in Afghanistan

In 2009, Marco Kroon received the Netherlands' highest military decoration. After all, this Dutch war hero has had to endure a lot of horror. A few years ago, he told what really happened when he was kidnapped in Afghanistan.

Kroon was kidnapped in Afghanistan during a covert operation in 2007. After he was released, he shot his captor with his own hands. At the table of host Jeroen Pauw's talk show, he recounted for the first time the horror he had to endure.

War hero Kroon recounted how he first had to undress and then was thrown onto a table and tied up. "I felt humiliated, emasculated. At some moments I thought I was going to be executed." Presenter Jeroen Pauw then asked what happened after he was laid face down on the table. "I still can't get that word over my mouth. I thought it would be easier for me to talk about it. Something happened where you hoped you would rather die," Kroon recounted the rape.

A little later he would have been released and shot his captor himself. Quite a few viewers reacted heavily to Kroon's story, as their reactions on social media showed.

The Dutch war hero describes his kidnapping and also talks about the rape in his biography "Crown Witness.
