A fetus of 18 centimeters discovered in her head
A one-year-old girl suffered from a rare abnormality: she was living with her "parasitic twin" in her head.
A phenomenon that results in the abnormal development of the embryo in the other baby. In many cases, doctors find it not too difficult to remove the fetus, which is usually in the child's abdomen, reports the media channel Linfo.re. The fetus can also lodge in the scrotum or thorax. This birth defect occurs in one in 500,000 babies, and there are 18 known cases of fetuses nesting in the skull.
The girl in question lived in China. The presence of these parasitic twins greatly affected her daily life. According to Linfo.re, her development was delayed and her head was significantly swollen. Tragically, the child was unable to stand up and suffered from incontinence. To alleviate her condition, the medical team decided to perform a craniotomy.
During that surgery, when opening the child's skull, doctors encountered an 18-centimeter-long fetus that was not yet fully formed. It "had a spine and bones, it even had eyes and hair, hands and feet."
Two weeks after the operation, the poor girl died. Her brain was too badly damaged. Whether genetic, environmental or pesticide-related, the cause of the disease remains a mystery to health experts.
