What will become of Kamala Harris?
According to American press, the future of the Democratic candidate defeated by Donald Trump remains a great mystery, even if her options are open.
According to the Daily Beast, “There's a clear path for men leaving the White House, but there's no blueprint for the first female vice president who ran for president and lost".
For his part, Joe Biden will be enjoying his retirement in January, but the question of Kamala's future, at just 60 years of age, has the American press wondering in depth. Run again in 2028? Run California? Work in the private sector? Give lectures?
Becoming governor of California is the option most often on the table, especially as the seat will open up in 2026 and the state has long been a Democratic stronghold.
“Come home, Kamala,” proclaim local Democrats, who are already imagining her leading the anti-Trump resistance from this well-resourced state-within-a-state.
But what does Kamala Harris really want? For the moment, no one knows. She leaves things in doubt.
“Privately, the vice president has asked her advisers and allies to keep her options open,” Politico published: and she reportedly told those close to her, ”I'm staying in the fight”.
