Trump's off-the-wall proposal: “let's send them to the Bahamas”

Throughout his campaign, the Republican businessman kept saying that, as soon as he was re-elected, he would deport illegal migrants on a massive scale.

He hasn't even set foot in the White House yet, but Donald Trump is already progressing on his promises. The new president-elect's team has already called on the Bahamas archipelago to submit a proposal that is, to say the least, far-fetched: to take in migrants from other countries who have been deported by the United States. This information was reported by the office of the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Philip Davis.

According to a statement issued by the country's executive on Thursday, “this proposal was presented to the Bahamian government, but the Prime Minister studied it and firmly rejected it”.

A firm position

According to NBC News, the American businessman's team has already drawn up a list of countries that could welcome deported migrants in the future. This list includes Grenada, Panama, the Bahamas, the Turks and Caicos Islands...

For their part, Philip Davis's office stated that the Bahamas “simply didn't have the resources to satisfy such a request”. He concluded: “Since the Prime Minister's rejection of this proposal, there have been no further exchanges or discussions with Donald Trump's transition team or any other entity on this matter. The government of the Bahamas maintains its position.”
