Trump promises to pardon Capitol assailants
US President-elect, Donald Trump, has promised to begin pardoning those jailed for storming the Capitol on January 6, 2021 to protest the outcome of the presidential election, on his first day in the White House
Mr. Trump has repeatedly denied inciting protesters to storm the US Congress. More than 900 participants in the assault have pleaded guilty to various offenses in order to receive reduced sentences in the proceedings against them.
He believes that all members of the congressional committee that investigated the assault should be imprisoned:
“They're the ones who should be in jail. They're just political thugs,” Mr. Trump said in an interview with NBC.
“I'm going to look at everything and I'm going to act very quickly. From day one,” he added.
