Polish PM wants Poland to help end war
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk (67) has said that peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine could possibly start as early as this winter. Moreover, Tusk wants his country to take a leading role in those peace negotiations.
‘I will hold a series of talks that will deal primarily with the situation beyond our eastern border,’ Tusk said at a government meeting on Monday. ‘Our delegation will be jointly responsible for the political calendar and the way the negotiations are going. Although there are still doubts, they may begin this winter,’ the Polish prime minister said.
Besides, Tusk wants Poland to play a central role in the peace negotiations. After all, his country assumes the rotating presidency of the European Council on 1 January. ‘I want Poland to be present not only as a country, but also to set the tone for the decisions to provide security and safeguard Polish interests,’ he said.
Moreover, Tusk will on Thursday sit down with French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron, who in turn will no doubt tell him how his meeting with future US President Donald Trump went last weekend.
