Macron throws deadline on the table
French President Emmanuel Macron wants to appoint a new prime minister ‘within 48 hours’. The 46-year-old French head of state told party leaders gathered at the Elysée Palace on Tuesday.
Macron sat down with the leaders of French political parties on Tuesday to find a way out of the current political impasse currently holding France hostage. The radical-right Rassemblement national (RN) and the radical-left La France insoumise (LFI) were not invited to the consultations. The French president wants to appoint a prime minister with more support after the fall of Michel Barnier's government, so he wants to do that within the two days. That new prime minister will have to form a French government with as many parties as possible.
