‘Great idea’: Donald Trump approves making Canada the ’51st state’ of United States
Donald Trump believes that making Canada the 51st state of the United States is a 'great idea’.
The US president-elect recently described Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as the "governor" of the "Great State of Canada", amid growing tensions between the two neighboring countries over the threat of increased tariffs.
The billionaire has warned that he plans to impose a 25% tariff hike on goods imported from Canada.
"No one can answer why we subsidize Canada to the tune of over $100,000,000 a year? Makes no sense! Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State. They would save massively on taxes and military protection. I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!", he wrote on Truth Social this Wednesday.
Donald Trump and Justin Trudeau last met in November at the billionaire’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
