Iranian instructed to devise plan to assassinate Trump
The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has charged Farhad Shakeri, an Iranian, in connection with an alleged plan by Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump.
According to the US ministry, Shakeri revealed that he had been instructed by the Revolutionary Guards to devise a plan to assassinate Trump, but that he had no intention of executing the plan within the time period he had been given.
Shakeri, a man 51 now lives in Tehran and had emigrated to the US as a child. In 2008, he was deported from US after being convicted of robbery.
Two men from New York whom Shakeri had met in prison were also arrested. They allegedly helped Shakeri in a plot against a US citizen who is fiercely critical of the Iranian government. Both men are detained, while Shakeri remains at large in Iran. Iranian officials dismiss the allegations as a ‘repulsive’ plot.
