Concern grows: “If Trump is elected, it'll be the end”
American neoconservative and columnist, but also George W. Bush's former shadow writer (known for his famous expression “axis of evil”), David Frum will not shout out his joy if the Republican candidate wins the presidential election… Quite the contrary.
It's the L’Express which reports the rather worrying analysis of David Frum, following an interview with him. Because he's intimately convinced: if Donald Trump becomes president of the United States, he will be much more dangerous than during his first term. According to the former author of Bush’s speeches, the Republican’s objective will be, above all, to take revenge. “And he will be surrounded by people who will want to help him,” he specifies.
It will be the end of democracy, the beginning of its instability, declares the author of “Trumpocalypse”.
And even if Donald Trump no longer has the same dynamism, the same energy as eight years ago, he remains no less a threat to the United States. "In the event of a second term, he will still be as lazy." And to bring down the enemy, the campaign is brutal, believes David Frum: "Trump will unleash all the dark forces of American life against Kamala Harris."
However, the victory of the former tenant of the White House is far from being obvious. "When it comes to Donald Trump, there's one important thing that people lose sight of. Despite his victory in 2016, he obtained 3 million fewer votes than Hillary Clinton. He lost the House of Representatives in 2018. He obtained 7 million fewer votes than Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. Because of his multiple interventions, the Republicans also lost the majority in the Senate in 2021," says the neo-conservative to put things into perspective.
