North Korean troops are marching towards Ukraine

North Korean troops have been stationed in a new Russian region, according to a Ukrainian official.

In October, U.S. intelligence confirmed that thousands of Asian soldiers had been sent to Russia to assist Moscow in its war against Ukraine. However, these claims were denied by North Korea’s representative at the United Nations.

While North Korean troops were previously spotted in Russia’s Kursk region, it has now been reported that part of the 11,000-strong contingent has been reassigned to the border region of Belgorod.

Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council’s Center for Countering Disinformation, wrote on Telegram this Friday that the troops had been relocated.

"Part of the military from the DPRK was transferred to the border area of the Belgorod region. There are none in the Kharkiv region." he said.

Belgorod Oblast lies north of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, which has been under Russian control since the conflict began in February 2022.

Additionally, an anonymous source close to Ukraine’s military command told Reuters that Kyiv lost 40% of the territory it had gained in the Kursk region after a surprise offensive last summer.
