American billionaires are afraid of Trump
This is a first in 36 years. The Washington Post has announced that it will not support any of the candidates in the American presidential election. During the last two elections, it had called for a vote against Donald Trump.
The decision was made by Jeff Bezos, boss of the Washington Post but especially of Amazon who fears a backlash from Trump, if the former Republican president is re-elected.
The decision provoked the reaction of other media and legends of journalism such as Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward who have the Watergate scandal to their credit. The 2 journalists affirmed that "Donald Trump was a threat to democracy".
Bezos and Amazon have many lucrative contracts with the American state.
"Democracy dies in broad daylight thanks to Jeff Bezos", headlined the Boston Globe in reference to the Washington Post slogan, "Democracy dies in the dark".
The New York Times headlined: "Why are some CEOs keeping quiet about their support for Harris?
The answer seems obvious.
