Richard Gere got an offer he couldn't refuse

American actor Richard Gere is back in the media for the release of The Agency, the remake of the French series Le bureau des légendes, and of course everyone keeps talking about his role in the film Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts.

“I'm very proud of Pretty Woman and the process we went through to create it. And I'm not just proud, I'm grateful for the film, because it's allowed me to do a lot of other things,” the actor recently declared.

He also admitted that he “didn't understand” the film or the character he was asked to play, Edward Lewis. “There was no character,” he declared. “So I read the book and thought, 'This isn't for me',” adding that "he felt the character was just a costume”.

Richard revealed the conversation he had with Garry Marshall, the film's director, because he didn't really want to make the film: “We started talking about the script and I said, ‘Look, I don't see any character for me’.”

“While I was talking to him, Julia Roberts who was next to me took a Post-It note from the desk and wrote something on it. She then passed it to me and said, 'Please say yes'. How can you say no to that?” recounted Gere.

We know the rest! Pretty Woman is one of the most cult films in American cinema, starring a legendary couple. Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.
