Born on December 15: Anna Domino, American with Brussels at heart

Anna Virginia Taylor Delory, who was born in 1955, is nevertheless a citizen of Uncle Sam's country, even if it was in Tokyo, in 1955, that she cried her first cries! Her father was serving in the US army as a translator for "Voice Of America"...

In the 80s, the creation of labels Les Disques du Crépuscule first and then Crammed Discs in Brussels (Belgium) played a magnet role for a generation of American musicians, inventive but on the fringes of the industry. They found, with Annick Honoré and Michel Duval on one side and Marc Hollander on the other, not only an attentive ear but also the necessary means (admittedly limited) to create in complete freedom. It's thanks to them that Anna Domino, Tuxedo Moon, Winston Tong, Steven Brown, Blaine L. Reininger, Dudley Kludt (with Kid Montana) and even John Cale learned to better locate the Belgian capital on a globe. Most of them even settled there for many years...

In a way, as she whispered with touching fragility on her first mini-album entitled "East And West" in a very appropriate way, Belgium became Anna Domino's "Land Of My Dream". After various wanderings across the United States, Mexico and artistic studies in Ottawa, Canada, with a cassette of demos recorded in her room in New York, she was noticed by Les Disques du Crépuscule and thus landed, literally, in Brussels. Her first single "Trust In Love" was released in 1983 and was followed by a handful of albums until 1990. Her very first attempt "East And West" comprising just 5 tracks bears the vintage 1984, an eponymous album was released two years later and "This Time" was released in 1987.

During her years spent in Europe, Anna also collaborated with Matt Johnson (The The), Virginia Ashley, Blaine L. Reininger and Steven Brown of Tuxedo Moon as well as Luc Van Acker with whom she signed "Zanna", a duet still as captivating on the latter's album "The Ship".

With her husband, Michel Delory (who was guitarist of Univers Zéro and Bel Canto), under the name of Snakefarm, she explores and today revitalizes American folk music. Always with the same persimony since only two albums have reached us since 1999. As for the personal compositions promised by Anna for ages, they still remain in limbo.

While she has recorded almost nothing since 1990 (with the exception of two songs for the compilation "After Twilight"), some of the singer's tracks have generated several million listens on Spotify like "Everyday, I Don't" and "Land Of My Dream" (1984). Many young artists would like to display such figures on their counter!
