BMW Dares to Do It: Bringing the Skytop to Production
Unveiled at the Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance in Italy in May 2024, the BMW Skytop concept is finally becoming a reality, but it will be an extremely limited series.
Only 50 units will be produced. This means the BMW Skytop—introduced as a concept last May at the Villa d'Este—will be reserved for a select few VIPs with close ties to the Bavarian automaker. This roadster pays tribute to the iconic Z8, a legendary car from the early 2000s that remains highly desirable.
The Skytop is built on the platform of the current M8 convertible. However, it’s a Targa, meaning its top can be removed by hand in two panels. The interior remains identical to the M8, as does its engine: a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 625 horsepower. This power enables a thrilling 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds.
Joining this exclusive club of 50 will come at a price—500,000 euros.
