Unidentified object spotted in the south of France: What's going on?
Last October, an unidentified object made its way into the skies over the town of Albi, in the French Tarn region.
No one was dreaming. Images of a UFO, or an unidentified flying object, in the south of France flooded social media networks, raising many questions. The wildest hypotheses were then hatched.
“Garbage bag”, ‘condom’, ‘weather balloon’... the suggestions multiplied, sometimes with humor, sometimes in fear. Soon, however, a plausible (and reassuring) lead drowned out all the rest. A rather well-informed Internet user claimed that it was a “test flight of a balloon with a stratospheric capsule from the French company Zephalto”.
As reported by 20 Minutes, the UFO was indeed a capsule, christened Lucy, which was on a test flight to collect scientific data in order to “analyze the composition of the atmosphere using a greenhouse gas sensor”. Zephalto also said that a sampler was on board the capsule to test the strength of materials “designed for space applications”.
