It’s madness in the United States: “3 tornadoes in 25 minutes”

On Wednesday night, Florida was hit hard by Hurricane Milton.

St. Lucie County was hit particularly hard. In less than 30 minutes, three tornadoes swept through the area, CNN reports. And that's just a fraction of the reports of 38 tornadoes that were issued across Florida.

In 24 hours, "more than 125 tornado warnings" were issued by the National Weather Service, shattering the record of 69 tornadoes that had been set by Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Videos circulating widely on social media show the scale of the disaster. One captured the exact moment one of the tornadoes hit St. Lucie County. In 50 seconds, wind gusts reaching over 125 mph swept across the landscape. The sky, changing from light grey to dense fog, witnessed unprecedented violence, throwing debris in all directions, reports L’Indépendant.

Shannon Martin, Mayor of Port St. Lucie, said, "We could never have predicted this type of activity because there's no precedent. I know I have never seen anything like this before in almost 20 years since I have been here."
