Woman murders parents and hides bodies for four years

In the UK, a woman has been sentenced for life for murdering her parents. The bodies were hidden in the parental home for as many as four years. She will spend at least 36 years in prison.

Virginia McCullough was convicted of murdering her parents, John and Lois McCullough, after years of cheating and financial exploitation. She lied about their whereabouts by claiming they were retired to the seaside.

In reality, she poisoned both parents and hid their bodies in the family home. Her father was found buried in a makeshift grave and her mother's body was hidden in a wardrobe. All the while, she continued to collect her parents' pensions and make expenses with their credit cards.

McCullough had run up a lot of debt due to a gambling addiction and lied to her parents about a financial scam. In September 2023, a GP raised the alarm: he alerted the police because he had not seen the couple for a very long time.

When the daughter was arrested, she immediately confessed that she "deserved what was coming". Last week, she was sentenced to life in prison.
