Sleeping in a hotel in space? First guests in 2027! (VIDEO)

Ever dreamed of spending the night in space? It could be possible as early as 2027!

The first-ever commercial space hotel, called Voyager Station, is set to open in 2027. The facility will accommodate 280 guests and 112 crew members if the planned schedule is met by Orbital Assembly Corporation, a construction company headed by John Blincow. The orbital hotel station will be OAC’s first major project and the first commercial space station with artificial gravity.

Construction on the 50,000-square-meter facility will begin in 2026, and OAC hopes to welcome the first guests-passengers to the hotel in 2027. The team explains that the project will be made possible by the hotel’s relatively low Earth orbit.

OAC plans to serve meals aboard Voyager Station consisting of traditional “space foods,” which are mostly frozen-dried foods. Zero-gravity recreational areas (gym, basketball court, etc.) should allow Voyager Station guests to enjoy unique experiences.

No official price has been announced yet, but the project's initiators hope to one day reach a cost comparable to that of a cruise ticket.

The first assembly element of this rotating hotel under construction will be a central, unpressurized annular structure that will house the docking hub. A large outer ring connected to the central hub and, eventually, 24 residential modules can be created.
