How do you know if you have a drinking problem?
Are you having trouble controlling your alcohol consumption? Are you wondering if your behavior is still normal? Do you really have a problem with alcohol? Here are some answers...
There's nothing wrong with having an aperitif with friends or sharing a good drink around the dinner table, but as in all things, you have to know how to keep a sense of proportion. Do you sometimes think that you drink a little too much? Do you think that your partner has a drinking problem? Go through this little checklist and see if you recognize one or more of the following 5 signs:
You want more alcohol than before
Do you feel that you need (and want) more alcohol than before to feel good? This is a sign that your body is tolerating alcohol better and better, and that you are becoming more accustomed to it. Beware...
You feel guilty
Feeling guilty every time you drink a glass (or several) of wine is perhaps another sign that you have a drinking problem. Get rid of this weight and confide in someone without delay. It's better to talk about it.
You can't stop drinking
Most people feel the moment when they have to stop drinking because they become drowsy and their desire to drink decreases. Do you have trouble stopping or do you feel the need to have a drink in the morning? This is a sign that you are becoming dependent on alcohol. It's best to contact your doctor quickly.
You continue to drink
If you continue to drink despite one or more of these warning signs, your alcohol consumption has become a bad habit. And could quickly become a problem. Contact a specialist to talk about your addiction!
You ignore the advice
Your partner or friends have repeatedly told you that you tend to abuse alcohol, and you ignore their advice? You certainly have a drinking problem! Seek professional help.
