Zelenskyy wants peace but on one condition
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has indicated that he is willing to end the conflict with Russia, but only under one condition: the territories still under Ukrainian control must be granted NATO membership.
In an interview with the British channel Sky News, the Ukrainian leader appeared to acknowledge the likelihood that the regions of Ukraine already occupied by Russia would remain under Moscow’s control. However, he emphasized the need for the rest of the country to be protected by NATO.
"We need to do it fast. And then on the [occupied] territory of Ukraine, Ukraine can get them back in a diplomatic way," he said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also stressed the urgency of negotiating a ceasefire to prevent further Russian advances and to safeguard the remainder of Ukraine from additional threats.
"If we want to stop the hot phase of the war, we need to take under the NATO umbrella the territory of Ukraine that we have under our control," the Ukrainian leader added.
