Unknown threat: Drones fly over UK military bases
Several unidentified drone groups have been spotted flying over RAF bases, including one that could potentially house U.S. nuclear warheads in the future.
The U.S. Air Force confirmed that flying devices of "varying size and configuration" were observed over three British bases located in Norfolk and Suffolk. The drones were tracked between November 20 and 22.
These British bases, in addition to serving the RAF, also host U.S. fighter jets. According to a statement from the U.S. Air Forces in Europe, it was not possible to identify the drones.
They told The Sun: "We can confirm that small unmanned aerial systems (UASs) were spotted in the vicinity of and over RAF Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall, and RAF Feltwell between Nov 20 and 22. The number of UASs fluctuated and they ranged in size [and] configuration. The UASs were actively monitored and installation leaders determined that none of the incursions impacted base residents or critical infrastructure."
