UK and France ready to send troops to Ukraine
The United Kingdom and France are discussing the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine as part of efforts to disrupt Vladimir Putin's actions.
London and Paris aim to establish a "core of allies in Europe," anticipating the potential withdrawal of the United States from NATO in January if Donald Trump returns to the White House.
A British military source told Le Monde: "Discussions are underway between the UK and France regarding defence cooperation, particularly with the aim of creating a core of allies in Europe, focused on Ukraine and broader European security."
In addition to deploying troops, British and French forces could also provide training for Ukraine's military.
Many Western nations fear that Trump’s return to power could signal the end of U.S. military aid to Kyiv, as President Joe Biden has been a key ally of Volodymyr Zelenskyy throughout the conflict.
Last week, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna told the Financial Times : "If we are talking about real security guarantees, it means that there will be a just peace. Then we are talking about Nato membership. But without the US, it is impossible. And then we are talking about any form [of guarantee] in the meaning of boots on the ground."
