UK abandons Ukraine

The United Kingdom will not deploy ground troops to Ukraine, despite media reports suggesting discussions between London and Paris.

In recent weeks, tensions between the West and Russia have escalated after the United States and the UK authorized Kyiv to use Western weapons to strike targets on Russian soil.

Earlier this week, the French newspaper Le Monde reported that France and the UK had not ruled out the possibility of a ground intervention in Ukraine.

While British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron reportedly discussed this option during Armistice Day commemorations in Paris on November 11, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy reaffirmed that the UK is not considering such a move.

“We are very clear that we stand ready and continue to support the Ukrainians with training particularly, but there has been a longstanding position that we are not committing UK troops to the theatre of action. That is certainly the UK position, and remains the UK position at this time, he told reporters.

The Prime Minister’s spokesperson also confirmed that there are no plans to deploy British troops.
