'Trump can end the war in Ukraine? I don't buy it'
A former national security adviser to Donald Trump does not believe that Donald Trump, as he claims, can quickly end the war in Ukraine if he were to be re-elected.
In an interview on US television channel CBS, HR McMaster, one of the four national security advisers Trump had during his presidency, stated that there can only be a favourable political outcome in a war if there is also a favourable military outcome. He calls Trump's belief that he can bring about peace without a military success "a myth".
According to McMaster, Putin needs to be convinced that he is losing the war. Putin might come to that realisation if he sees that the US continues to support Ukraine.
Trump previously praised Putin and already suggested that Ukraine could be forced to negotiate with Russia if the US cut off aid.
