Russia could target British bases
A Russian state TV journalist has sparked controversy by suggesting that British military bases in Cyprus could be targeted for missile attacks in response to Western support for Ukraine.
Tina Kandelaki, a Georgian-born media figure known for her pro-Kremlin views, made the remarks while discussing the US’s authorization for Ukraine to use ATACMS tactical missiles against Russian targets.
“Do you know what I would advise you to do in the coming months, after Zelensky receives authorization to launch American, British and French missiles into Russian territory?” Mr Kandelaki told Russian state TV.
“It’s simple, there are only a few hundred kilometers between Syria and Lebanon and Cyprus, and various armed groups in these countries could accidentally divert their missiles to hit British bases,” Kandelaki said.
The remarks have attracted the attention of several European media outlets, highlighting the growing tensions over the potential regional impact of the conflict.
