Russians finish off prisoners "like animals"
Ukrainian authorities are investigating the alleged summary execution of 16 of their soldiers by Russian soldiers on the Pokrovsk frontline in the eastern Donetsk region.
Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Andri Kostin, said that if confirmed, it would be the largest execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022.
The event was made public in a video posted on social media, in which Ukrainian soldiers, who had surrendered, are seen being lined up by Russian forces before being shot. The Russian servicemen then allegedly finished off the prisoners on the ground, as Kostin describes it.
Since the start of the war, Kiev has repeatedly denounced these war crimes, noting that Russian forces have executed dozens of unarmed or wounded Ukrainian soldiers who had already surrendered.
