Russian steamroller in action
Didier François, a senior international reporter, was on LCI, the French news channel, to discuss the almost unstoppable firepower of Putin's soldiers in Ukraine.
For Didier François:
"Why are the Ukrainians retreating? They're unable to find a tactical solution with the equipment they have to solve the problem of gliding bombs, which is a huge problem. The Russians have a stock of "idiot" bombs that weigh 250kg to 1000kg."
For Dider François, Russian military engineers have found a system to make these bombs more dangerous and deadly:
"They were able to build a small kit that's actually fins that they put on a normal bomb and that allow them to be dropped quite far away; they glide for 50 kilometers before going to destroy, but as they are very heavy, they destroy the Ukrainian defensive positions, the bunkers, the trenches,...
"With these gliding bombs, the buildings are razed. The Ukrainians have suffered enormous losses and have decided that they can no longer make this firm defense and that in order to avoid too many deaths, they prefer to retreat. And that is what they're doing because they don't have a solution to respond to these gliding bombs. The solution would be a massive supply of anti-aircraft defenses and Western aircraft, which isn't the case, hence this permanent decline that will continue."
