'Russia capable of attacking NATO in a few years'
Bruno Kahl, head of the German Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND, one of Germany's intelligence services), has told a parliamentary committee that Russia will be able to attack NATO by the end of this decade.
According to Kahl, Russia does not pose a direct threat now, but Germany is vulnerable because the Kremlin considers it an enemy because of its support for Ukraine. Kahl argues that Putin is out for a new world order and that Russian intelligence is acting increasingly aggressively.
Chiefs of other German intelligence agencies, such as Martina Rosenberg of the Militärische Abschirmdienst (MAD) and Thomas Haldenwang of the BfV, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, confirm increased espionage and sabotage activities by Russia in Germany. They call for increased vigilance and warn the German people not to be naive. The Kremlin denies the allegations and claims that NATO is precisely threatening Russia through its expansion.
