Putin shuts the door to negotiations with US
Russian President Vladimir Putin will not accept a peace deal negotiated by the United States, as he seeks to "crush" Ukraine to demonstrate the West's fragility.
Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who stepped down last September, has warned that Donald Trump's potential return to the White House in January could harm Ukraine. Donald Trump has vowed to end U.S. military support for Kyiv.
He told Politico: "Ukraine is a personal obsession for Putin, but crushing Ukraine is also a means to accomplish his grand goal – to show to the world how the West is incapable of defending itself or what it stands for."
This statement comes as Russia recently tested a new medium-range intercontinental ballistic missile targeting Ukraine.
Last week, an Oreshnik missile struck a military facility in the city of Dnipro. Vladimir Putin has since declared that additional strikes using this experimental weapon will take place in the future.
