Putin's ally to step up military aid
North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, and Russian Defense Minister, Andrei Belousov, discussed the strengthening of military ties between the two countries, which have grown closer since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Friday's meeting focused on deepening the Moscow-Pyongyang strategic partnership, particularly in “the defense sector, the defense of sovereignty and security”, North Korea's official agency reported. The talks resulted in a “satisfactory consensus” between the two sides, the agency added.
According to various Western and South Korean intelligence services, 10,000 North Korean soldiers are stationed in Russia for training. They are led by several generals from the Pyongyang regime.
Last week, a high-ranking general was wounded by a Ukrainian strike on Russian territory using American long-range weapons.
