Putin, one step closer to victory?
Ukraine lost the town of Vouhledar last October, after two years of intensive fighting. In the wake of this defeat, British defense intelligence is analyzing the Russian advance.
Vouhledar, once a pillar of Ukrainian defense, is now in the hands of the Russian armed forces. A victory on the Russian side that has enabled Vladimir Putin's men to advance into less well-defended territory in the west of Donetsk oblast.
A defeat that weakens other localities
Although the Ukrainians regained territory in the south of Vouhledar in their 2023 counter-offensive, the town is now more vulnerable. The Russian army is attacking behind established Ukrainian defenses and threatening logistical routes to the town, reports Le Monde.
