Putin on the edge as Ukraine advances into Russia
Ukraine is reportedly seriously considering launching another offensive on Russian soil, following the success of its operation in the Kursk region last summer.
Since August, Ukrainian forces have maintained control over a portion of the border oblast between the two warring nations. Now, it appears Kyiv is contemplating a fresh attack within Russian territory.
The Kremlin was caught off guard by the sudden offensive, forcing Moscow to relocate troops stationed in Ukraine to reinforce the Kursk region.
Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief, General Syrskyi, who led the successful Kursk invasion, has hinted at the possibility of a second attack on Russian soil.
Speaking during a meeting with journalists he said: "We must stop the enemy, but victory is impossible if Ukrainian forces remain purely defensive. We must seize the initiative and counterattack - and we will."
This time, Ukrainian forces might target the Bryansk or Belgorod regions, other border areas between the two belligerent countries.
