"Putin attacked Ukraine because it was a weak link"
On LCI, a French news channel, Didier François, senior reporter and international political consultant, gave his vision of how the conflict between Moscow and Kiev is unfolding.
For the senior reporter:
"Russia has turned to a war economy to prioritize the production of equipment, even if it means that people have daily shortages in many civilian sectors."
"They focused on the mass production of robust weapons with ammunition and on mobilization, before they were able to mobilize 250,000 men per year. Today they mobilize 500,000 men per year, they double their capacity, they have organized themselves. They have put themselves in battle order."
And the question about the future of the conflict seems crucial:
"So are they preparing for a war beyond Ukraine? I never believed that Ukraine was Ukraine in itself. The problem is what does Russia want in Ukraine? They are sending us a message, they want to impose that Westerners recognize their right to do what they want, they took Ukraine because it was the weak link."
