Potential escalation of the war
Hungary's ultranationalist government has called the possibility of the European Union sending military advisers to Ukrainian soil "unacceptable" and "very dangerous."
It believes that this could lead to an escalation of the war caused by the Russian invasion. "We have made it clear that we don't consider it acceptable to delegate military advisers on behalf of the European Union (EU) to Kiev, which is very dangerous," said Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who is attending a meeting with his EU counterparts in Luxembourg.
Mr. Szijjártó said in a statement that "proposals have already been made for the EU to send military advisers to Kiev as part of an operation. This crosses the red lines", the minister justified, without specifying which proposal he was referring to, since so far the EU only trains Ukrainian military personnel outside the country.
