Nearly half Russian budget to go to defence by 2025

According to the AFP news agency, the Russian government plans to spend 30 per cent more on defence and security next year.

In total, Moscow would provide some 108 billion euros ($145 billion) for all defence spending. That amount would account for about 40 per cent of the total budget for the Russian government. To pay for the growing costs of the war in Ukraine, Moscow is raising more personal and corporate taxes.

"Social services" remain the top priority, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said last week.

"The second priority is providing for defence and security expenditure, providing the funds for the special military operation and support for families of those taking part in the special military operation," the minister said.
