“They're completely stupid”: Macron's statement doesn't go down well
A few words that weren't expected to cause such a stir. While traveling in Rio (Brazil), the French president was challenged by a Haitian man, who was clearly unhappy with the situation in his country.
On Wednesday, Emmanuel Macron responded to an angry Haitian, who accused him of “being responsible for the situation in Haiti”. His response was filmed and widely shared on social media networks. In the video, the French president can be heard saying, “Quite frankly, it was the Haitians who killed Haiti, by letting the narcotraffic in”. He continues: “And then, what they did, the Prime Minister was great, I defended him, they fired him!”, referring to the dismissal of Garry Conille by the Haitian Presidential Transitional Council, reports 20 Minutes.
Opposition sanctioned
Garry Conille was appointed Prime Minister 5 months ago, with the aim of stabilizing the country. The decision to remove him from office was taken on November 10: he had opposed the Transitional Council, which wanted to replace the heads of Finance, Justice, Defense and Health, explaining that “the resolution of the Presidential Transitional Council [...] is clearly tainted by illegality”.
“He was great"
“It's terrible. It's terrible. And I can't replace him. They're completly stupid, they should never have taken him out, the Prime Minister was great,” added Emmanuel Macron.
Political, socio-economic and humanitarian crises are sowing chaos in this Caribbean country, intensified by the brutality of gangs who control 80% of Port-au-Prince (Haiti's capital).
