“Putin's disease”
General Michel Yakovleff, former Vice-Chief of Staff of NATO's Shape, spoke to the French news channel LCI, and explained he believes that the war is above all linked to the psychology of the Kremlin leader.
The French general wants to put the Russians' paranoia about a NATO attack into perspective:
“The fundamental problem is that we didn't attack the Russians. On the contrary, we only wanted good things for them. So Putin says, we must strike first if we are ever attacked. That's his disease.”
“That's Putin's disease. Putin needs an enemy for his regime. He needs to feel attacked.”
The general concluded:
“And besides, from the start, he's been attacking and saying, I'm defending myself. That's crazy. And every time we do something, he says, you're escalating. We're always behind him, but we're the ones climbing.”
