Large-scale Russian attack puts 1 million Ukrainians without power
Russia launched a large-scale missile attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure on Thursday. 1 million people are now without power in Ukraine.
‘The energy infrastructure is once again the target of a massive attack by the enemy,’ a post by Herman Halushchenko, Ukraine's energy minister, read on Facebook.
Major power cuts have been reported in at least three regions in western Ukraine: 523,000 people are without power in Lviv, 280,000 in the Rivne region and 215,000 in Wolynia. Power company DTEK also had to carry out power cuts in Kiev, Odessa and Dnipro.
Many analysts fear that during the winter months Russia will attempt to literally leave Ukrainians out in the cold.
