Is Russia secretly negotiating ceasefire?
Russia strongly denies that it planned secret negotiations on a temporary cease-fire with Ukraine. The American newspaper Washington Post had reported that the Ukrainian offensive in Russia's Kursk thwarted plans for such talks. But negotiations do not appear to be forthcoming for the time being, according to Moscow.
"There were and are no direct or indirect negotiations between Russia and the regime in Kyiv on the security of critical civilian infrastructure," said Maria Zakharova, the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman.
"Nobody overturned anything, because there was nothing that could have been thwarted," the spokeswoman said. According to the American newspaper, such talks were planned in Qatar, at least to stop attacks on energy infrastructure.
