Huge blow for Putin as Ukraine wipes out naval base in Russia
Multiple drones targeted the Russian fleet based in the Dagestan region, located nearly 1,400 km from Ukraine.
The attack took place on Wednesday at the Kaspiysk base, with video clips of the offensive shared online. One clip shows a drone crashing into several ships docked at the port.
No official statements have been made about the attack or the extent of the damage. This marks Ukraine’s first strike in this Russian area.
Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan’s government, stated that one drone was shot down over the port. However, local residents contradicted this, reporting they saw several drones.
"The circumstances of the incident are now being clarified. There is an operational headquarters and I am in constant contact with the responsible authorities. I want to assure that all decisions will be made in a timely manner for the safety of the residents of the republic," he said in a statement.
