France does not rule out sending troops to Ukraine
France has not ruled out the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine, according to Benjamin Haddad, Minister for European Affairs.
Like other NATO countries, France has trained 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers since the conflict began in February 2022. However, President Emmanuel Macron has reiterated that there is no collective agreement to deploy troops on the Ukrainian front.
NATO has supplied significant military equipment to Ukraine during the more than two years of conflict, with Russia condemning this support as a form of proxy war.
In May, the Le Monde newspaper reported that France could send instructors to Ukraine as part of an agreement between the two countries.
Regarding France’s current position, Benjamin Haddad told the German media outlet Berliner Zeitung: "President Macron said that nothing should be ruled out, and that still applies, especially for training missions."
When asked if France maintains its stance on the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine, the minister responded affirmatively.
Later in the interview, Benjamin Haddad stressed that Ukraine has the right to defend itself and blamed Russia for escalating tensions by refusing to adopt a diplomatic solution to reach a peace agreement.
