Bad news for Ukraine
On Sunday, Vladimir Putin signed Russia’s national budget for 2025, with nearly one-third allocated to military expenditures.
According to a document published on the government’s website, Russia will dedicate 32.5% of its budget to the war effort, as the conflict with Ukraine nears its third year, the Associated Press reported.
This announcement coincides with a visit by European Union representatives to Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The EU’s new foreign affairs chief, Kaja Kallas, European Council President António Costa, and European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos traveled to Kyiv on Sunday to reaffirm their "unwavering support for the Ukrainian people," as António Costa wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Tensions in Ukraine have intensified following the United States and the United Kingdom granting Ukraine permission to use their missiles on Russian territory.
In response, Moscow launched a medium-range intercontinental ballistic missile strike on the city of Dnipro. During a televised appearance, Vladimir Putin said that the Oreshnik missile was deployed in Ukraine for the first time and warned that additional strikes could follow.
