In France, a man bequeaths 10 million euros to a town because it bears his name
An exceptional bequest! 10 million euros for the small commune of Thiberville in the department of Eure (northern France).
The donor, Roger Thiberville, died at the age of 91. With no heirs, the man decided to bequeath his fortune, mainly real estate, to the town bearing his name, reports L'Eveil Normand.
The town's mayor, Guy Paris, plans to manage this generous sum prudently. Indeed, the municipality intends to pay off a debt of 407,037 euros before investing in a fire station or a synthetic sports field.
Although Roger Thiberville owned some very valuable real estate in the French capital, he lived modestly. His fortune had been passed on to him by his parents, then by his sister (who herself had no descendants).
To pay tribute to the generosity, the commune of Thiberville will build a stele in its cemetery to house his ashes.
