20 million dollars to explore the Titanic
The implosion of the submersible of the private American company OceanGate that caused 5 deaths earlier on in the year didn't discourage Larry Conner, a billionaire active in the real estate sector in the United States.
The man decided to make a high-performance submersible for two people, “with an acrylic hull and a diving capacity of up to 4,000 meters”. The Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer was developed in collaboration with the co-founder of Triton Submarines, Patrick Lahey, for the modest sum of 19 million dollars. The submersible was designed to visit the Titanic and prove that the industry is and remains reliable, despite the “OceanGate” incident last June.
The duo then hopes to offer exclusive trips to the depths of the ocean and, through these expeditions, demonstrate the full potential of these machines and above all, their safety. Cost of such a trip? Around $762,000 per dive.
