Metal thieves plunder 50 graves
Thieves are becoming increasingly bold in their robbery.
Metal thieves have wreaked havoc on a cemetery in the centre of Dendermonde in East Flanders. Copper and bronze have disappeared from as many as 50 graves. Similar thefts have occurred in other Flemish cities in recent months, leading the authorities to believe that it is a travelling gang. Letters, ornaments and everything made out of copper or bronze were stolen and loaded into a van. Even the copper door of a chapel was taken. The police are conducting a neighbourhood investigation.
