A Canadian influencer causes a cuncumber shortage in Iceland
Finding cucumbers in Iceland has become a real challenge. The reason? A Canadian influencer has turned this vegetable into a summer must have. Icelanders can't live without them anymore!
Logan Moffitt, a 23-year-old Canadian influencer, is passionate about cucumbers. He's so convincing in promoting this vegetable that he has caused a real shortage in Iceland.
How did he achieve this? Since July, Logan has been multiplying videos of cucumber recipes on TikTok. One of his creations was relayed by Icelandic influencers, encouraging the inhabitants of the island to rush to go buy cucumbers. On the menu: cucumbers (obviously), salmon, sesame oil, garlic, rice vinegar and chili oil.
Although it's not uncommon for the supply of cucumbers in Iceland to decrease around the summer time, the current situation is exceptional. According to Kristin Linda Sveinsdóttir, marketing director of the Icelandic Farmers Association, the increased demand for this recipe this summer has even made other ingredients rarer on the shelves.
