Russian Michelin chef exposed as spy at Olympics
Kirill Griaznov was arrested on July 19 at his home in Paris in possession of "diplomatic material" and charged four days later. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison.
As a "sleeping" FSB agent, the chef had been living in Paris for 10 years. Today, the 40-year-old Michelin-starred chef is the subject of a French judicial investigation into his alleged work for foreign intelligence services, particularly the FSB, Russia's internal security service.
According to French investigators, his mission was to "incite hostilities in France" and plan sabotage during the Olympics.
Kirill Griaznov revealed his plans by bragging during a drunken conversation at a dinner on the Bulgarian coast. Griaznov was arrested by the French security service, which found enough evidence to charge him with espionage.
He had planned a large-scale operation at the behest of Russian secret services.
